Lee Hein reported that he’s getting ready to head back to the session in mid-Jan and hoping for a short session.

Ned R reported that the County attorney has now moved to the 3rd floor of the Court House and several personnel attended fall conference in Iowa City.

Wayne M called Ned to say that the was a 1/2hr evacuation of Court House due to gas leak. Turned out not to be a problem.

Richard Stivers spoke on behalf of Rick Santorum for President. He feels Rick has constantly campaigned as a conservative.

Special guest Rod Blum, candidate for US House introduced himself. Owner of Digital Cannel Software and a real estate developer from Dubuque has grown the company by 100 fold in 21 years. Rod believes in smaller government, physical and personal responsibility and common sense. He feels that if elected he’d only serve 3 two year terms evidence of his citizen legislature.

Brian Moore, state house candidate and incumbent, will be representing most of Jones County outside of Anamosa and Monticello, introduced himself. Father of eight and operator of a trucking business and livestock farmer from the northern Jackson County area.

Under old business Curt up-dated everyone on the Jan 3rd caucuses and the planning the Exec committee. The committee took the lead because of the short time available to get volunteers and temporary caucus chairman. To date 32 volunteers have stepped forward and the caucus sites have been confirmed. Notices will be sent to the newspapers twice and letters will be sent to all caucus volunteers regarding training either Tuesday evening the 13th or Saturday Dec 17th. Registration will no doubt be the bottle neck of the caucus event. Information will also be available to the web site.

Under new business Dawn Burmahl brought up the need for the Central Committee to re-examine the Constitution and by-laws of the committee. Concern is regarding voting by non elected delegates. She also is concerned that those elected to central committee are not being notified of meetings and if they are not meeting the  minimum performance requirements they should be replaced. Those requirements are 1) attend monthly committee meeting 2) organize precinct caucus 3) co-operate with organization activities in your precinct i.e. county representative and canvas activities  4) organization of election day activities in precinct 5) actively support candidates nominated by the Republican party.

She is also concerned that while she volunteered to chair a caucus she was overlooked and asked to be the recorder. She’d like to see the committees as provided by the governing documents be followed. There was agreement that we should review the documents but we need to get past the caucus first and present possible changes at the County Convention in March. No motions were made but Exec committee will take it under advisement.

Question was raised about new precinct boundaries and Curt mentioned that we have been advised not to worry about this until after caucuses and the the State office will be offering some guidance for the process.

Meeting adjourned at 8 pm
